Last weekend 16th and July 17th, the fourth and final round of the Spanish Kite BuggyLeague was held in Zalduendo (Burgos) Spain.
Zalduendo is a great spot for inland riding, at an altitude of 1000m, it is composed of several football fields (goals included). Throughout the year, the grass is very short as loads of sheep pass through the spot daily to eat it
Now in summer the sun has dried out the grass and there is some dust, but still very fun.
For this last race Jon was in perfect shape, ready to finish the season for the team Vapor Spain, for my part, after the accident at the 24 hours of SPO I was unable to compete since I have to take good care of my ankle fracture and continue with the cast and crutches (at least for a couple of weeks). I was watching with envy as all the riders enjoyed the race at full speed.
We had moderate and gusty winds with changes of direction. Most kites used for the race where between 3 and 4m, two rounds where held with this conditions.
In the first race Jon chose the 4.5m Peter Lynn Vapor with 25 meters of line to try and pick up higher & cleaner winds. He soon placed second behind Nacho (a good colleague who also raced with Vapor 3.8m). Jon moved quickly and smoothly. The Vapor worked perfectly against the gusty wind. Nacho had taken several meters of advantage and wanted to fight to the end in search of his first win of the season. Everything seemed to be set for Nacho … until he suffered a sudden collapse in middle of several trees, he quickly runned the fix his kite. Jon took this opportunitty to jump to first position and fight the rest of the race in that position with a very good performance. It was his second win of the season.
In the second race Jon raced with the 4.5m, right at the start Nacho took the lead with Vapor 3.8m. Jon was running fast and maintained the distance riding in a very aggressive way. Nacho increased the distance until he had a crash, in which one of its rear wheels flew off. This caused Jon to take the lead and kept the first position until the end of the race, earning his third win of the season and victory in this last event of the season.
Vapors work perfectly in gusty winds.
In this final round of the the Spanish Kite Buggy Jon was first place and Nacho second also riding with Peter Lynn Vapor. In Women´s class another pilot Peter Lynn Vapor got the first place.
Regarding the general classification, the league began in November 2010 and now ends in July 2011, after 4 events, 12 races held and 27 riders arranged in classes Master, Open and Women class. Women’s was achieved by a pilot with Peter Lynn Vapor, Jon Muzas on the Master Class has been the second place, third Nacho (driving much of the season Peter Lynn Vapor), and first place was for me Ruben Sereno also riding with Peter Lynn Vapors.
Thanks to Peter Lynn for their support, to the AEKB, and all people who have made the National League possible, judges, pilots, volunteers, supporters …
Jon Muzás & Rubén Sereno
After France, the UK and the Netherlands this is the fourth national title in the 2010/2011 season won by Vapor pilots, and naturally we are extremely proud of the teamriders that have accomplished it all. Awesome job guys!
