The third date of the Spanish Kite Buggy League was held this past weekend, 26 and 27 of March 2011. This time in the north of Spain, races were held in Laredo beach (Cantabria), one of our usual and favorite spot, just an hour away from home.
The weather forecast was very disapointing for the weekend: too little wind and big probabillity of rain. The weather turned out to be totally different and we where able to race four times.
On Saturday we ran three races with light wind and sun, enjoying our 13.4m and 11.2m Vapors. The wind was dying at times and made us fight in order to achieve a good result, but with the PL Vapor … everything seems easier. Jon got two second places and on my side I got in first in all three races.
On Sunday we disputed a single race due to the rainy conditions. It was very exciting and fun to race with gusty offshore winds and peaks of 26 knots. Jon and I went out with Peter Lynn 4.5m Vapor. Jon took off before me like a bullet, riding and turning very fast upwind. It began to rain soon after the race started. In the first turn to the circuit we place ourselves at the top spots. Mid of the second lap I managed to catch up with Jon, and keeped closelly a few meters away from him… then the wind increased, and in the upwind turns my ass was more outside than inside the buggy. Jon, who is bigger, could hold the wind increase, and took advantage of the situation, he got back on first place to finish the race.
At the end of the weekend, the general rankings for the Master Class endded up with Jon in second place, and me remaining first, giving us greater distance on the national rank.
Thanks to Peter Lynn for their support, and to the organization of the event.
