SCSU Winter kiting weekend

Jan 29-30 Peter Lynn teammembe Aaron Saude and his team members at MN Adventure offered volunteer instruction and demo’s to St. Cloud State University’s Outdoor rec program. Their winter kiting weekends happen the end of Jan and Feb and this weekend every student got to feel the thrill of snowkiting!

Friday night the wind was up and eager students took out trainers in the dark. Bryce johnson also took some time to get some long exposure PL photos with a headlamp that one student, Trevor, used to write Peter Lynn in the night sky.

Saturday we awoke to light winds. good enough for Twisters to get the students used to flying kites. the 24m Synergy was passed back and forth and gave great rides! After lunch we drove 5 miles out on the lake to catch more wind and put students on our vintage PL kites.

We didn’t want them pounding our treasured Chragers! they did excellent, most even staying upwind and all of them loved the use of PL kites giving them confidence to put their binding son without crashing kites. I let one student jump on the 19m Charger and even saw him catch a little air. no kite experience to 2 feet off the ground in 6 hours on a Peter Lynn kite. the surface was hard with little snow cover, but that didn’t stop us from trying to jump as high as we could and land everything in order to avoid crashing on solid ice.

Sunday the winds were stead and light. Everyone took the chance  to get one more day if riding in, building a little kicker to try to get whatever lift we could out of the light wind.

Much thanks to the SCSU’s Outdoor program for inviting us to show off the kites every year and help make more PL kiters. the second session is the end of feb and hopefully we’ll have 20Mph winds and 2 feet odf powder!

A big thanks to Aaron, awesome stuff!

Good winds,

The Peter Lynn team.
