Kite Wildlife Camp

From the 28th to the 30th of January the KWC took place on an artificial lake near Lipno, Czech Republic.

the thing that’s special about this event is that it isn’t about who’s best but more about celebrating the freedom of snowkiting. So annually hundreds of kiters from all places travel to this spot for some days of riding. So this year Peter Lynn needed to be represent!

So we decided to use the trip fully to get at least an extra day of riding in, which meant an early alarm on thursday, packing the gear and a relatively smooth 7hr drive and some food near Prague I arrived some 15 minutes before Guntram, Nick and Dominik, How’s that for timing!

Despite the grey skies we were all really stoked to get some riding in so in no time we were fully dressed up in snowkite gear and setting up our kites on this enormous lake. Winds were smooth 3 to 4 Bft and grew stronger later which was a good build up. Quickly all fears we had about not having enough snow, a not completely frozen lake or lack of winds were out the window and we were enjoying a perfect snowkite session!

Fridaymorning we all woke up to a beautiful sunny day with promising movements in the trees, so before heading out for another sesh we had to put up the big PL tent, which by the way goes amazingly fast if the conditions are right.

Winds were amazingly constant dispite the fact it didn’t come from the optimum direction and we were nicely powered on the 15 and 19m Chargers. We used the conditions to do some photo and video shooting and Nick and I racked up numerous kilometres of riding while guntram was showing off some of the new 2011 kites to the public.

With the sunset coming in (way too early!) we all went for a well deserved high carb dinner and went to bed early  and content.

Saturday we woke up to an unbelievably beautiful nature spectacle, trees had set with huge ice crystals that shimmered in the cold morning sun. The flipside however.. light winds, so light that anything moe than relaxed cruising wasn’t possible. When the wind dissapeared completely later guntram used the 16m monster Vapor to demonstrate the superior low end of handle kites versus anything depower.

The KWC was a huge success and tons of fun so I recommend anyone to attend next year! Thanks to Tom for his energetic support, Thanks to Marko for the perfect organisation and ofcourse Peter Lynn for making this trip possible.

In the meantime; stay stoked!

Flo.

A big shout out to Flo9rian (GFlo) Giehl for the report, hope we can join you guys next year!

Good winds,

The Peter Lynn team.
