Feel the excitement once you’ve managed to do your first couple of meters rolling through a field or a sandy beach with a mountain board on your feet… Kite Landboarding, also known as Kite Ground Boarding (KGB), Flyboarding or Landboarding, is a sport in which one uses kite power to create forward motion on an oversized skateboard with air tires and bindings. These boards were originally used for off-road downhill purposes, a sport which is widely known. But by adding a kite to the picture this new sport resulted in rapid evolvement in the types of boards. In the beginning the boards were heavy and quite long, but with the demands of the current freestyle crowds boards became lighter and shorter. Lighter to make jumping easier, lighter yet to make board offs and even finger flips possible. Shorter to make the turning radius smaller and turning generally easier.

First meters. Make sure you have a proper understanding of your kite and how to handle it, once you have mastered flying your kite you can start thinking about boarding. Why do you need to know your kite inside out? Simply because you don’t want to think about how to fly it when having to control your board at the same time! To get rolling easily, make sure you point your board downwind a bit, some 45 degrees, this is just for the first few meters, once you roll turn into the wind until you’re riding at a 90 degree angle to the wind.

Like in kitesurfing there are two main disciplines: freestyle and race. But there are lots of people that just love the feeling of cruising up and down the beach.

Safety. As landboarding can be an extreme sport, it’s important to take safety precautions. Protecting your head is of course the most important, but you also must consider wearing  knee pads, elbow pads, shin protectors and even a back protector.
